Dental Sealants
At Grove City Dental we provide dental sealants to support your overall dental health. This is a proactive, preventative measure that can help you keep your teeth free from decay, especially in the grooves and depressions of your teeth that are often hard to reach with normal cleanings.
What are Dental Sealants?
Dental sealants are a clear coating that is placed on the biting surface of the tooth, to prevent decay. A little sealant now means fewer fillings in the future. This coating is “sealed” to the tooth, creating a barrier and protecting enamel from plaque and acids.
Sealants are easy to apply, with no numbing necessary, so the treatment can be completed very quickly in the office. The material holds up well under normal wear and tear, and can last several years. (Though we will always double-check the current status of the sealant during your normal checkups to make sure there isn’t any chipping or excessive wear.)
What to Expect
The application procedure is fairly easy. We will start by completely cleaning the surface of your teeth. When it’s completely dry we can apply a solution to roughen the teeth just a little, making the surface more readily bondable. We’ll then rinse and dry the teeth again before we finally put the sealant on to the enamel and harden it with a curing light
Sealants are beneficial for children and adults to prevent decay, though it is most often applied when the patient is still a child or teenager.
Our goal is to help you achieve the best dental health possible. We’ll work with you to determine whether this is the right treatment for you. Set up your appointment today to get started.
